Updated June 2011
Claire paints and teaches around the Blackmore Vale and Cranborne Chase in North Dorset. The backbone of her work used to be portraits, but in recent years Claire has enjoyed working from the landscape around her and finds that this now employs most of her painting time. Claire works in both Watercolours and Oils, and finds that the two mediums balance well with her style.
Claire Teaches for 2 1/2 days a week and likes to be out on a hillside or in the shed for the rest of her time. Painting outdoors is 'escapism'!
Since childhood, Claire has sketched the hills of Okeford Fitzapine and the people around her. The only thing that has changed is the mileage of inspiration that now compels her; from Win Green to Stourhead, the lambing sheds to the beaches of Cephalonia, her children's faces to Bob Dylan!
Last year was a busy one. Claire took a group of students on a painting holiday to Normandy, where a super time was had, took part for the 4th time in Dorset Art Weeks and had 3 other exhibitions. At the beginning of 2011, Claire found lots of inspiration on a visit to the North Island of New Zealand and is now looking forward to painting at The Feast of Dorset at Deans Court in Wimborne in September. The next painting holiday, in June 2012, will be in a different house from last year, but still near Coutances and with new sites to visit.
